Riding for a Cause

Republic Day rally to Baalemane girls’ orphanage: 31st January 2010

Road Veda in association with Fastrack is gathering 100 classic bikes for a charity ride to Baalemaane girls’ orphanage to celebrate Republic Day.

Most of the girls at Baalemaane were rescued from domestic service. Some were homeless. They have a roof over their heads but need the basics: pots, pans and plates, bedding, buckets and mats. We’re inviting riders to bring whatever they can – from a single spoon to a month’s supply of vegetables ‐ and ride with us to the orphanage to deliver it to the girls in person.

The ride will start at NICE Road, continue along Magadi Road and proceed via Nelamangala to Baalemane. After chai, aloo bondas and an intensely spectacular drum dance by the girls we head back into the city and end the ride at Opus where the rock band Solder will perform over drinks and brunch.

A list with all the articles that the girls’ home needs is online: www.roadveda.wordpress.com. The ride is free and all are welcome – the only condition is that each bike contributes something to the orphanage.

In addition to Fastrack’s sponsorship, this ride has been made possible thanks to the support of: Nike, Yogesh Bhandari and Rotract, Economic Transport Organisation and Masters Management Consultants.
